Welcome

HendriK DeBoerThank you for your interest in our ministry.  We serve a diverse community in Oakland’s Lower Bottoms.  As you navigate our web site you will notice a diverse ministry, but there is only one focus, and that is Jesus Christ.  You are invited to participate with us in bringing the love of God to a disenfranchised community.
There are many ways to be involved:
  •          Pray for us.
  •         Short term mission.
  •         Volunteer – youth group from church or school, Bible study groups, mission trips
  •         Missionary – call me and let’s discuss Gods call to the inner-city.
  •         Financially – We are not government supported.  We depend on individuals, churches, and corporations.  We need you.
<!--
These are a few of the ways, but I encourage you to contact us and let’s discuss how God wants to use you.
In His Service,
Hendrik de Boer
Second Annual Eye Screening PDF Print E-mail

The Kingdom Came Down...

What do you get when you get together five churches, a dozen doctors, a few more non-profits, a hundred volunteers, a ton of prayer, 400 eye glasses and 503 patients?

An eye screening!

 Holy Moley!

This years eye screening was even better than last!  We couldn't believe our own eyes how many people showed up! We served a record number of people and over 200 on our last day alone!  It's amazing what comes about when God's people come together in prayer with a vision.

Gilbert Matzuzaka, the lead doctor and member of Christian Layman Church, had a vision for an eye clinic two years ago.  Last year we held our first clinic in our Resource Center.  For a two and a half day event it was successful, but we all had a feeling we could do more.  After last years event he immediately starting talking with other churches and organizations. to get more space, volunteers, and doctors.  This year the event was held across the street at St. Martin de Porres Catholic school.  We had a prayer team assembled from various local churches, most notably Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist.  Christian Layman Church, who sponsored the event, brought 100 volunteers from their church to come out and serve.  many people took time off of work to spend time serving our community!  We were also blessed with so many optometrists who gave their time for the week.  Had we not had so many volunteers and donations, the cost of the week would have been over $500,000!  Isn't it amazing what God's people can do!?!?!?

One thing people kept mentioning about the week was how the Kingdom of God came down.  With so many groups coming together to put this event on, one had to marvel at how God works.  People of all different ethnicities, colors, and economic states came together to make this event for the kingdom.  Catholics, protestants, clergy, laymen, businessmen, an church women came out to work as Doctors, help register, facilitate, and pray.  Praise God!

Keep posted for the pictures coming soon!

Summer Interns PDF Print E-mail

kids club camp world impactIt's the middle of winter, but summer is coming!  Every summer at World Impact we have hundreds of kids and people come through our doors for kids clubs, sports camps, BBQ's, breaksfasts, fishing trips and camps.  We had a fantastic summer in 2009 and look forward to an even better one in 2010!  Our staff is small, and even though we get a number of volunteers throughout the summer, an integral need to our summer success is dynamic summer interns.

Our summer interns spend at least six weeks with us and stay in our staff housing.  They need to pass a not so rigorous application process and fundraise a little money to cover expenses.  After that it's smooth sailing to having a great summer in the warm California sun!  Our interns do everything from help facilitate summer ministry teams, lead bible clubs, participate in our church services, and even go to camp.  Our "summer" lasts a long time, from the beginning of June (men's retreat) to the end of September (Camp Timberwofl), but the best time for interns to come is during the month of July when our kids clubs are in full swing.

Don't hesitate to give us a call with any questions.  We'd love you to contact us about spending a summer in Lower Bottoms and helping us love others!
