Our Mission

To serve the people of west Oakland by equipping and empowering them through the power of Jesus and the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
Hendrik and Judy DeBoer

Hendrik and Judy DeBoerJudy and I have been married 42 years.  Although I was born in Holland, Europe, we were both raised in Holland, Michigan.  Judy was a nurse and I was a barber, farmer, baker, investment banker, service station owner and salesmen.

God blessed us with four awesome daughters and life was good.  In 1992 God opened a door for us to become inner city missionaries.  We sold everything and moved to Wichita, Kansas.  There we started our education on the inner city.

God led me to start a company that hired the hardcore homeless.  It was a challenge, but the company was very successful in reaching the poor, but also financially.  From that experience I became very involved in the ex-offender programs, and started doing Bible study in prison.  This all led to an ex-offender ministry that started a Christian half way house and I became very involved in changing the laws governing half way houses.

In 2000 World Impact asked us to come to Oakland and we accepted.  Oakland is very different from Wichita, but God used Wichita to prepare us.  If you peruse the web site, you can see how God has blessed the ministry in Oakland.

Judy and I are now blessed grandparents with 13 grand children.  Awesome!  On the negative side, they are spread all over America and we don’t get to see them as often as we would like.  But, we are blessed.  Blessed that God allowed us to be missionaries in His army.
