4 weeks, 48 changed childrenOnce again we pulled off 4 straight weeks of VBS here at World Impact. We totaled 48 kids this summer, with an average of 23 a day. Our summer interns from InterVarsity pulled their own weight and more as they headed to work with hot, excited kids every day. Alli, one intern, hit it off well with a child who comes to our center often. We'll call him Marco. Marco is raised by his grandfather and doesn't get a lot of love flowing to him everyday. He doesn't have many friends and often is a trouble-maker when he comes to World Impact. But somehow Alli, a college student at San Francisco State University, and Marco became great friends throughout the summer. Marco doesn't usually come to our Saturday Morning Breakfasts, but he came the last day the interns were there just to tell Alli good-bye. He brought his grandpa with him and his grandpa told us how he cried the night before because he didn't want to see Alli leave. They cried together and said good-bye one last time before Alli and the team of interns left for good. Alli and Marco made just one of the many impacted relationships of the summer. Each one of the interns could tell you how they were touched by someone in the community, either a child or an adult. Similarly, many of the neighborhood children will tell you how much they miss and love the summer interns. We also miss and thank the 2009 InterVarsity BAyUP Interns. We couldn't have put on such a wonderful summer program without them. Here's some pictures of the Interns, and click here to see more!
